Edo Judicial Workers, Stakeholders Reach Deal To End Strike

A peace deal, aimed at the suspension of the six-month old strike of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Edo State Chapter was reached in Benin City on Monday.

The deal was reached at a peace meeting convened by frontline civil society and environmental protection group, the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ).

The meeting, held at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre was presided over by the Esogban of Benin Kingdom, Chief (Dr.) David U. Edebiri, OON, with the attendance of several stakeholders, including the Catholic Archbishop of Benin Metropolitan See, His Grace, Most Rev Dr.
Augustine Obiora Akubeze and Anglican Bishop of Benin Diocese, Most Rev. Jasper Imasuen.

Others were Edo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Henry Idahagbon as well as representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Benin Branch, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State.

Following the mediation of the above mentioned eminent citizens, the JUSUN Edo State enlarged executive members, led by the National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Kayode Igbarago undertook to prevail upon the organization’s Executive to convene an emergency State Congress to suspend the strike action.

The decision, intended to enable the mediation effort complete its negotiations with the Edo State Government within the shortest possible time, not later than one month was contained in a communique signed by all the following stakeholders at the end of the meeting:

Iyomon; Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State, Comrade Desmond Agbama; National Publicity Secretary of JUSUN, Comrade Kayode Igbarago and the Executive Director, Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev. David Ugolor.
