All Progressives Congress (APC) Publicity Secretary in Edo State, Comrade Godwin Erhahon has condemned the tendentious selfish interests of several Nigerian lawmakers, saying their attitudes to public service constituted an impediment to national development.
The veteran journalist-turned politician made the remark in Benin City recently during a chat with Alltimepost.com Nigeria Bureau Chief.
Comrade Erhahon stressed the need for public office holders to place the interest of the nation above their selfish interests, saying that the leadership of both states and national assemblies must lead by example to deliver true democratic dividends; otherwise the purpose of electing them would be defeated.
His words: ‘‘A legislature whose leadership is interested in stomach infrastructure instead of public infrastructure is an obstacle to progress.
He, however described the newly constituted Edo State House of Assembly as matured and magnanimous in the way its principal officers emerged and for the opportunity it gave to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to freely choose the minority leader of the House, adding: “it marked a new epoch in our political struggle.”
“Never have we had it so good that APC enjoys so much majority that the minority became so dazzled to organize themselves in producing an acceptable minority leader of the House.”
He noted that APC-controlled Edo State House of Assembly has demonstrated the kind of magnanimity for which the party is known under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Otherwise, he said the rules of the House allow Edo State House of Assembly to have chosen their leadership, just the way PDP conspired with renegades of APC to produce the leadership of the National Assembly against the interest of the party.
“I just hope that PDP would not push APC to retaliate at different levels across the country,” he said.
Comrade Erhahon expressed optimism that the new leadership of Edo State House of Assembly, headed by Honorable Victor Edoror will give Governor Adams Oshiomhole maximum cooperation.
That, he said will enable him pursue the development of Edo State to logical conclusion in November 2016 when the tenure of his administration expires.
The APC Publicity Secretary described Governor Oshiomhole as a miraculous creature, a Lion who neither bow to any threat nor succumb to any instruction from any quarters, but rather he dares to conquer.
According to him, Oshiomhole is endowed with all the qualities of a Lion and the Wisdom of Solomon, given the astonishing performance of the APC during the last 2015 Presidential and House of Assembly Elections in Edo State.
‘‘He (Oshiomhole) is a blessing to Nigeria and Edo land. His general principle is founded on good and Godly initiatives for the welfare of all,’’ he remarked.
