Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW), has reminded Nigeria’s President-elect, retired Major-General Muhammadu Buhari to look beyond his victory and see the people’s mandate as an opportunity to govern and chart a new future for the nation.
In a message of congratulations to the former Military ruler and other Nigerians who were recently elected into various offices in the country, the ENAW, an apex Edo organization in the Diaspora stressed the need for elected officials to put the interest of the country first in their service to the nation.
“After your victory laps, the glorious tasks of enabling and advocating for your people begin,” the organization said.
The ENAW, in the message signed by Elder Franklin Omoruna and Prince Victor Ehue, National President and Secretary of the organization respectively, commended Buhari for his gallantry, convictions and persistence in pursuing his long-term presidential ambition.
The association attributed his success, after four times of trying to the above qualities, noting that it would unequivocally serve as a great source of inspiration to other aspirants.

We at Edo National Association Worldwide are filled with overwhelming joy and join millions of Nigerians at home and abroad to congratulate the Federal Republic of Nigeria for a successful national election.
Special thanks to our outgoing President, President, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, GCFR, BNER, GCON for allowing Nigerians to see that “victory is not a do or die affair” because “nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian” according to him.
Our special congratulations to retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari the President-Elect for gallantly fighting for his convictions and attaining victory for all.
To those who were not successful in this go round, let it be known that losing does not define you, it merely reveals your character.
Remember that election is like a merry go-round; there is no greater example for this than our newly elected retired President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari who succeeded to become the next President of this glorious Republic after four tries.
To the winners, congratulations. You have come a long way and have triumphed in the end. According to Mahatma Gandhi, “first they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win” Oh, how sweet it is!
After your victory laps, the glorious tasks of enabling and advocating for your people begin. In paraphrasing Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., be aware that there comes a time when you must take a position that is neither safe, nor politically correct, nor popular, but it is a position you must take because your conscience tells you it is the right thing to do for your people.”
You have been giving one of the greatest privileges in life: an opportunity to govern and chart a future for your own generation–Don’t squander it!
One of Nigeria’s founding fathers, Chief Olufemi Obafemi Awolowo (Reconstruction 1961), noted that “Those of us placed in a position of leadership must be prepared to grasp the mantle……..in addition, [if] we set a worthy example……and self-sacrifice, the people will follow, all too readily, in our footsteps.”
We call on our new breed of leaders to show us the way today, and we shall be proud and ready to follow your footsteps.
May Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria
May Long Live Edo State of Nigeria
Oba gha to kpere, Ise!
Signed:
