Nigeria Govt. Urged To Sanction DSTV Provider, Multi-Choice

Boston – By Alltimepost.com

Nigerian government has been called upon to check the excesses of one of the nation’s leading satellite cable TV services providers, Multi-Choice who has allegedly taken undue advantage of subscribers by billing them for un-rendered services.

In a petition sent to Alltimepost.com dated March 9, 2015 by Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice and signed by its Communications Manager, Mr. Bob Majiri Oghene Etemiku, the organization condemned the company’s recent decision to increase the amount paid for its services, as recently published in the Guardian Newspaper of March 9, 2015.

“We consider this outrageous and an insult to the sensibilities of the numerous Multi-Choice subscribers who barely manage to cope with many of the substandard decoders that the company sells to its clients.”

Below is full text of the petition:
In many parts of the world where Multi-Choice operates as a service provider, the company dispenses excellent services but at very low and affordable tariffs.

Take for instance in South Africa, customers PAY-AS-YOU-WATCH, that is they only pay for the hours that they watch the programs on their DsTV and GoTv.

But that is not the case in Nigeria where MultiChoice has over two million subscribers and customers.

Even when we have travelled and not at home watching television, and when there is power outage, the company still keeps our accounts running and insists that we must pay for what we have not consumed.

That is not fair and just. Just this morning, a number 08176658036 called me to find out why I have not paid up on my expired subscription, not minding the fact that because I have not had very reliable power supply, I have not switched on my decoder for days.

As if this is not enough ground to ask the Federal Government, the National Assembly and the regulatory bodies to begin the process of disbanding Multi-Choice entirely, the company has added salt to our injury.

On a news report on The Guardian newspaper of 9th March, 2015 Multi-Choice has said that it would increase tariffs soon.

We consider this outrageous and an insult to the sensibilities of the numerous Multi-Choice subscribers who barely manage to cope with many of the substandard decoders that the company sells to its clients.

We implore the Federal Government and the relevant regulatory agency to put pressure on Multi-Choice to puts its act together and render efficient services that would justify the fees that Nigerian customers pay.

Nigerians are entitled to some respect, and we are united in our resolve to resist the planned new tariffs that the company is scheming to introduce.

We call on Nigerians to say an emphatic NO to this planned increase by boycotting DsTV and its allied services if it goes against our wishes.
