A former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalami Abubakar, on Tuesday called on Nigerians to give President Goodluck Jonathan the benefit of doubt on his assurance not to shift the re-scheduled general elections slated for March 28 and April 11.
The former military leader made this remark while speaking with newsmen in Kano during the inauguration of Kano Informatics Institute, Kura.
According to him, Jonathan had in his recent Presidential Media Chat assured that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct the polls as re-scheduled.
“As our President, let us give him benefit of doubt and accept what he said”, Abubakar said.
He, however, urged the electoral umpire to ensure that it conducts free, fair and acceptable elections for the sustenance of the country’s democracy.
”I do hope INEC officials will conduct free, fair and credible elections in the country”, he said.
Asked why he visited President Jonathan and Gen Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential candidate, Abubakar said the visits were personal.(Daily)
