“No effort should be spared to ensure that the humanitarian services of Oronsaye Orphanage in Benin City, Edo State, will continue to be available to the needy in society, long after the exit of its founder Princes Katherine Oronsaye,”

In a tribute signed by the state Chairman, Comrade J. O. Obadigie, the organization described late Princess Oronsaye as a great mother, foremost proprietor, inspirator and role model for mothers.

The tribute reads:

“When she started the orphanage in the then Midwest region, it was the first time that an individual would embark on such an apparently unprofitable and demanding venture.

“She had her own biological children, yet dared to take on the challenge of catering to the needs of children who had no parents to cuddle them.

“Not only has Mother Oronsaye brought up men and women who are responsible citizens today, she has inspired the establishment of other orphanages in the Edo State, even as some of them have fallen short of the ethical standards set by the Oronsaye Orphanage.

“She was the darling of journalists looking for human angle stories especially on Sundays and readily gave account of herself and the kids in her care.

“Princess gave all persons the temple to worship humanity and the Almighty God. This is why we have come to commiserate with the immediate family at this occasion.”

The organization was proud that some of its members had the privilege to cover the activities of the orphanage right from inception in the early 1960s.

“It is our prayers that this orphanage, this legacy of Mother Princess Katherine Oronsaye will continue in perpetuity”, it concluded.
