In what appeared to be a retaliation against the Chadian government for joining the Nigerian military in the war against it,
Boko Haram insurgents have carried out an overnight attack on the Nigerian neighbour. Security sources have however described the attack as the first of such assaults on Chadian soil.
According to Chadian officials, the insurgents crossed Lake Chad by motorboat and attacked a village on the shores of the lake.
We recalls that Chad recently joined the efforts by Nigerian neighbours to crush the violent Islamist sect.
The militants were reportedly repelled after they had killed several people.
According to residents, the insurgents set fire to many straw houses in the village of Ngouboua.
Though the number of casualties is not yet known, Chadian officials however say a local chief was killed during the attack.(Daily Post)
