Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) will close route I-195 east and westbound on-ramp from the new Water Street Connector and Route 79/Broadway northbound on Saturday, January 24, 2015 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Department, the closures are necessary to continue the demolition of the Exit 5 ramp, which is above the I-195 on-ramps.
The statement added that Signage will be in place for the detour routes and that Police details will be present at the work site and along the detour routes to maintain traffic flow.
It listed the following detour routes to be in place for Saturday, January 24 from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM only to include:
•All traffic on Water Street Connector and Route 79/Broadway northbound destined for I-195 will take Pocasset Street westbound.
•Traffic destined for I-195 eastbound will use the temporary on-ramp across from the Chamber of Commerce.
•Traffic destined for I-195 westbound will continue on Pocasset Street to south Frontage Road and follow the signs to I-195 using Exit 6.
“There will be no impacts to pedestrian or bicycle access in the area during this work. Local access to area attractions and abutting properties will be maintained at all times.
All businesses are open. Motorists should follow the Battleship Cove Area signage for access to the waterfront. MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays,” the statement added.”
The Department advised Drivers who must travel through the affected area to expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling through the work zone, adding that the schedule for the major infrastructure project is weather dependent and subject to change without notice.
The Department reiterated its commitment to compliance with Title VI (nondiscrimination) of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and related federal and state statutes and regulations.
“It is the policy of MassDOT to ensure that no person or group of persons shall on the grounds of Title VI protected categories, including race, color, national origin, or under additional federal and state protected categories including sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, creed, ancestry, veteran’s status (including Vietnam-era veterans), or background, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any program or activity administered by MassDOT,“ it reaffirmed.
