Soldiers, Civilian JTF and Hunters in pursuit of the Dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram that attempted to take over military barracks and Biu town on Wednesday has confirmed that, they succeeded in killing 75 fleeing insurgents.
A soldier who was not authorized to speak to newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital on Thursday, that, most of the insurgents killed were Chadian Nationals.
“It was a battle and we thank the people of Biu for being brave and thanks to the fighter Jet that came in good time, so we pursued them even to Zur forest where many of them were killed. But the sad thing is that we discovered certain papers on them that suggest they were from the Republic of Chad. I mean most of them but of course the rest are Nigerians.” He said
Also residents of Biu who went to see the corpses of those killed and brought to Biu town said; majority of the Islamic sect members killed were not Nigerians.
According to a resident of Biu, they will not go to sleep now, especially that they have learnt that the insurgents are assembling at a village called ‘Gangarwa’ a town between Gujba in Yobe state and Damboa in Borno state.
Both Gujba and Damboa has suffered series of attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents in recent past, a situation which led to displacement of over 500,000 people from the area.
Meanwhile, the Defence Information at the Nigerian Military Headquarters is yet to release a statement on the attack in Biu, but has put photographs of the aftermath of the attack in Biu on its website, where it displayed corpses of the insurgents and weapons recovered from the insurgents during the attack.(Daily Post)
