Former Lagos State Gov. Tinubu Asks Pres. Jonathan To Resign

Benin, Edo, Nigeria – By Oladipo Airenakho.

Yesterday’s political gathering of The All Progressive Congress (APC) in Benin City, Edo State, provided the opportunity for former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to take a swing at President Goodluck Jonathan, restating his demand for the president’s resignation.

The occasion which took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium was the six-year anniversary celebration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as Governor of Edo State, the heart beat of Nigeria.

The APC leader spoke against the backdrop of the poor performance of the Nigerian Military in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency in the country, remarking that on the President’s watch, “soldiers are fleeing without firing a shot and abandoning barracks with armoury for terrorists to loot.”

Continuing, he said  APC will sweep Jonathan out of office if he refuses to go. Hear him: “you refuse to go, we will sweep you away,” adding that his party will prove to the PDP that the power of the people is greater than the barrel of the gun.

Tinubu accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of being an arm of the PDP, saying “INEC and PDP are Siamese twins, but APC will separate them.”

In his own speech, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Aminu Tambuwal urged Nigerians to shun politics of ethnic and religious sentiments in the 2015 General elections and vote for candidates capable of bringing desired changes to the country.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by former Head of State, General Mohammadu Buhari, former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.
