The crisis rocking the Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP after the conduct of Ward congresses, yesterday took a new turn as governorship aspirants and other stakeholders from the state, warned that it was capable of scuttling the chances of the President and the party in 2015.
Briefing Journalists yesterday in Abuja on behalf of PDP governorship aspirants, National Assembly members, all Local Government Council chairmen and all chapter chairmen of the party on recent political events in the state, a governorship aspirant, Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, called on President Jonathan and national leadership of PDP to urgently intervene in the crisis.
He however alleged that those he described as money bags in the state were out to hijack the political process in the state, adding that they were out to subvert the will of the majority of party members by, “ switching the results of the delegate election.”
It will be recalled that after the ward congress in the state, some aspirants applauded the outcome of the ward congress, while others cried out against the result on the premise that the result was not a true reflection of the exercise.
But in a swift reaction, Senate Majority leader, Senator Victor Ndoma- Egba who described the allegations as libellous and irresponsible, said that it was wrong for the state chairman of the party and Governor Liyel Imoke’s camp to now recant on the Ward election result which they had accepted initially.
Reacting through the Director General of his campaign organisation, Ernest Irek, Ndoma- Egba insisted that the party leadership at the state level who are now joining ranks with the aggrieved group who lost out in the ward election have shown bias which was not expected. (Vanguard)
