2015: Tambuwal Drops Out Of Presidential Race To Run For Sokoto Governorship

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal has confirmed pushing aside his presidential ambitions.

Tambuwal, who recently pitched his tent with the All Progressives Congress (APC) will now run for Sokoto State governorship seat in the coming general election.

Confirming the development to newsmen on Tuesday, the Speaker said he made the decision after wide consultations.

His words, “after consulting widely, I have decided to contest for the governorship of Sokoto State. I thank my friends who collected the presidential forms for me, nonetheless”.

This decision is coming following his consultations with big wigs of the party, who are strong backers of retired General Muhammadu Buhari.

An insider who would not want his name in print told Saharareporters that Tambuwal was reportedly “begged” by Buhari loyalists to step down for the former head of state so as not to spoil his dream of becoming the APC’s consensus candidate in the upcoming party primaries.

The Speaker hit global headline recently after his security aides were detached from him following his shocking defection to the APC.

Following his controversial defection, some house of representatives members visited him at his official residence with the Presidential nomination forms for the APC, asking him to run for the office of the presidency.

However, shocking revelation emerged that Tambuwals sudden interest in the presidential race was triggered by President Jonathan’s alleged attempt to frustrate Buhari from emerging as APC flagbearer.

Insiders further told the online portal that battle to oust Tambuwal as speaker was fashioned out to raise his profile and attract public sympathy that could portray him as anti-establishment. (Dailypost)
