Zambia’s president Michael Sata died last evening, leaving a power vacuum.

Defence minister Edgar Lungu was acting president but he has been made to step aside for Scott.

According to information received, Guy Scott with the help of Fred M’membe, the owner of Post newspaper, simply told the attorney general to go and tell other ministers that he is now the president.

Edgar Lungu has since accepted to step aside.

Lungu called a cabinet meeting at about 05.00 hours, all cabinet ministers turned up but Scott was not in attendance.

Attorney-General Musa Mwenye went into the meeting last and just announced that Guy Scott has taken over as president. Mwenye was under heavy police escort.

Guy Scott was born June 1, 1944 and is believed to be suffering from advanced Parkinson Disease. He denies it angrily.

Scott will have to act for 90 days in which time he should call for a presidential by-election. In essence, it is Fred M’membe who will call the shots.

Though many people believe that Scott is barred by the parentage clause to run for president in the by-election, the Zambian Watchdog is convinced that Fred M’membe and Scott will manipulate the law somehow and make Scott contest. If Scott will not contest, M’membe will decide who the ruling party’s candidate will be.

Fred M’membe was in London these past few days trying to meet Sata’s family. Just when Sata died, M’membe phoned Guy Scott. Scott in turn summoned all the service chiefs to his house. (ZambianWG)
