Witnesses at the airport who saw police make the dramatic arrest, say the man was arrested for allegedly planning to bomb the Centrex unit of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency.
At press time, it is unclear if the would-be bomber had connections with the Boko Haram Islamist group, which has stepped-up its activities in Northeastern Nigeria in recent months. The story appeared in the Daily Independent newspaper late Monday evening
Once apprehended, the man was handed over to security personnel stationed at the Beesam Police Station, which is located within the airport. Mr. Waheed Salahu, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Command, declined to comment further to reporters, saying it would be premature to talk with the media at the moment.
