Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has assured that Osun election would be ranked best among elections ever conducted in Nigeria.
He gave the assurance while speaking at ‘Stakeholders Forum for Osun State Governorship Election’.
Assuring that the election results would be difficult to manipulate, Jega said the Commission’s objective was to make every election count in the country.
He said INEC will always strive to conduct a free, fair and credible election that cannot be challenged in any court of law.
Jega further urged politicians to avoid desperate ways of undermining the electoral processes, saying their actions have been detrimental to political processes in Nigeria.
He warned staff of the Commission to be wary of the antics of politicians, saying that whosoever allows himself to be used will have himself to blame.
“We shall not protect anybody who has done wrong in this election”.
Jega disclosed that the ballot papers were unique to each local government and also serially numbered to guard against fraud and manipulation.
“We have put machinery in place to make the election a success. One of such is that we have put in place colouring coded of the ballot papers, what will be used in one local government area will be quite different from another.”
“What we have done in Ekiti State will be different from Osun State’’.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleman Abba said that all security men on ground were battle ready and fully on ground to suppress any act of thuggery, intimidation and antics of any kind that might want to undermine the election.
“We have gotten enough men to monitor the election in the state, no hiding place for thugs and their sponsors on Saturday.”
The IGP assured people of the state of maximum protection, urging them to go to the polling booth with assurance that they would be protected.
